Hotel Lido by Phoenicia

EN: Lido Hotel has always been a emblem of Bucharest and a symbol of the glamorous and exquisite life from 1930 and after a long, long period of time when it was closed, this year it reopened its doors at the end of January. We knew about this ambitious project of renovation, directed by Phoenicia Hotels group, we read that a complete transformation of the hotel was aimed (however keeping the interwar accents) and we heard that the interior decorations are simply stunning. And rightly so! Hotel Lido by Phoenicia is a perfect mixof museum and hotel, it seems that it re-entered the tourism scene in the most extravagant possible way πŸ™‚ How could it be different, for a hotel that was glowing during the interwar period, being a real symbol of Bucharest ever since?

RO: Intr-o epoca in care minimalismul si designul nordic sunt la putere in designul interior, Lido si-a facut aparitia intr-un mod curajos, pastrand atmosfera vechiului hotel si aducand in prim plan decoratiuni somptuoase, culori puternice, atmofera modernista si multa inspiratie din stilul Art-Deco american (de altfel foarte apreciat dupa cel de-al doilea razboi mondial).

EN: In an era where minimalism and Nordic design rule the interior design, Lido made a brave appearance, keeping the vibe of the old hotel andΒ  bringing to the fore sumptuous decorations, powerful colors, the modernist atmosphere and a lot inspiration from the American Art Deco style (which was actually very appreciated after the second world war).

EN: Many of the original elements of the “old Lido” have been kept and brought to life again. If you ask us, the most important ace up the sleeve at Lido is definitely the original elevator, installed at 1930 (of course, it is now reconditioned and the security systems have been changed and updated). The stairs have been kept, the pink marble from the lobby is the original one and also the ceiling from some rooms is the original one, the corridors and the walls from the rooms have lots of art elements, lots of paintings that have been created by Romanian painters especially for Lido Hotel. The rooms have different decorations and chromatic, and the view towards Magheru boulevard is just great. The entire renovation project wants to bring the old vibe back and also the fame of the hotel, the main scope of the project is to make Lido Hotel the elegant and glamorous place it used to be during the interwar period. At the first floor of the hotel there is a nice brasserie, Lido’s Brasserie, where breakfast is served, decorated in the same elegant style. And yuuuup, there are plans to renovate the famous “pool with artificial waves”.

EN: At the end of March we’ve spent a weekend at Lido Hotel, in one of the apartments from the sixth floor and we really felt like going back in time. Starting with the gorgeous elevator and it wrought iron “lace”, the sumptuous corridors, the walls full ofΒ  paintings, decorations and imposing mirrors and ending with the rooms and all the impeccableΒ decorations. The hotel was full, simply full of foreign tourists and we were extremely happy that we’ve been invited by Lido by Phoenicia to spend a weekend as tourists in our own hometown πŸ™‚
