Dutch people are not so into Christmas (for instance St Nicholas or Sinterklaas is more important than Santa Claus) but when it comes to Christmas decorations, they have so maaaany adorable things! It’s not a surprise as we already knew they have quite an obsession for interior design (so many stores with all sort of decorations!) but we didn’t think that we will find so many nice decorations for Christmas! We did most of our Christmas shopping in a gorgeous store called “It’s all about Christmas” from Hoog Catherijne mall in Utrecht, and the rest of them are handmade decorations that I made last year. Our house seems so much cosier now that we have it decorated for Christmas :) #prinlumecom
Status update on our life in The Netherlands: we have a reaaaaally annoying weather this month, it rains a lot and even though the temperature is not so low, the wind makes it much colder than it actually is. But this doesn’t bother us too much, as we have the best reason to chill more :) This weekend we discovered our new hometown, Zeist, one of the greenest small towns in NL. There are parks everywhere (and they honestly look amazing), lakes, canals, we even have a castle in the center. Where there was a Christmas market on Saturday! Of course, Christmas markets are waaaaaay below any Christmas market seen in Germany, but... we have one in our small town and that’s quite a big thing :))) We try to live as Dutch as possible: we cook bitterballen at home (we also discovered some vegetarian ones for me :D), we eat way too many stroopwaffles and kruidnoten, we go shopping at the Saturday market (and spend loads of money for several vegetables :D), we go for a walk even if outside is raining (we’re probably the only humans living in NL and not owning a raincoat) and we buy flowers every week. I still don’t know how to ride a bike and I feel so uncomfortable to say “goedemiddag” (good afternoon) or “alsjeblieft” (please/thank you) at the supermarket. I still hate their soft or hard G, it is still impossible for me to pronounce it :))) Other than that, things are getting better, days are easier, our mood is so much better and Alexei is healthy and happy :) #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #utrecht #zeist
We asked Alexei what he would like to receive from Santa. He said “brrr” (as in cars), “brrrrrr” indicating with his fingers to the ceiling (as in airplanes) and “choochoo” (as in trains of course). These are his current obsessions in terms of toys. And we’re pretty sure most of the children of the same age have the same preferences :) So we have a third Christmas gift today and this time @adinishcom is Santa’s helper. We are offering a playmat rug and wooden train as a present (more images with the products in our stories). Rules are the same as the previous contests: just follow @adinishcom and @prinlume and tag a friend that would like to know about the contest. There can be multiple entries from the same account as long as the tag is to a different person. Contest will last until 10th of December and we will announce the winner in our stories, using random.org website. Good luck! #prinlumecom #christmasgiftprinlume
So I got the NICE mug and Andrei the NAUGHTY one :D And tons of sweets! Stroopwaffles covered in white chocolate, kruidnoten biscuits with prosecco flavour, Belgian chocolate and others. So, let there be NO DIET in The Netherlands! Thank you St Nicholas for this hihihi #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #netherlands
Today it will rain all day loooong so we have no plans of getting out of our cozy house. We have the Christmas tree decorated sooo nice, we have sweets from St Nicholas and Christmas carols. We don’t need anything else. Actually it would be perfect if daddy could have a day off to join us in our laziness :D Alexei is wearing a gorgeous knitted overall from @iya_romania (Sense Organic collection). They have such a nice new collection for winter, it was really hard to decide what to choose from them :) We’ll soon have a Christmas giveaway with @iya_romania , we will come back with more details in the next few days! #prinlumecom
Andrei and I have the same debate each year regarding the time when St Nicholas and Santa Claus arrive. And also when is the proper time to receive (and of course UNPACK) the presents. I always said that St Nicholas is on 5th of December in the evening (not 6th in the morning) and Santa Claus on 24th of December in the evening (not 25th in the morning). I might be over excited about all this presents madness, but I really love seeing everyone’s reactions when receiving their presents :) Today we have a second Christmas gift to offer in collaboration with @littlebandit.ro . A pair of waterproof Baby Bogs shoes, suitable for rainy and even snowy days. The price will be offered with a Klean Kanteen baby bottle as well (we have two of those and they are amazing! looking great but also very practical). Same rules apply, just follow @littlebandit.ro and @prinlume and tag a friend that would like to know about the contest. There can be multiple entries from the same account as long as the tag is to a different person. Contest will last until 8th of December when we will announce the winner via random.org :) #prinlumecom #christmasgiftprinlume
This place really looks amazing even now, on this terrible windy weather. It was sunny and there was no sign of rain but we literally couldn’t stay more than one hour in the gardens due to the wind. But we’ve been told that during winter time weather is almost never colder than what we have now. Actually, NL has pretty mild winters, with average temperatures of 3-4 C degrees. Which is not bad at all comparing with the harsh winters in Romania. Anyways, up until now we can’t actually say that Dutch weather is as fickle as people usually say. Or we’ve been lucky enough to have a great November :) PS: I’m wearing a gorgeous handmade coat from @maressia.official , from an older collection. I will probably wear it all my life, that’s how much I love it! #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #kasteldehaar #maressiaprinlume
Who would have thought that Netherlands has castles (and really impressive ones)? De Haar Castle is one of our favourite and it really looks amazing. Not only the castle itself but also the gardens, the lakes, the small bridges over the water, the entire land surrounding the castle! And it’s just at a stone throw away from Utrecht! #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #kasteldehaar
Dutch people have a really cute tradition for Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas). Three weeks before 5th of December, when Sinterklaas arrives in The Netherlands, children receive small gifts from Sinterklaas almost EVERY DAY. (chocolates, candies or any other small gift, it doesn’t have to be something big or expensive, just a small treat from Santa). So, just to apply the Dutch tradition, we’re celebrating Christmas by offering some small gifts from the brands we worked with this year. Starting our first GIVEAWAY with @dodoli.ro , Santa has a 250 RON voucher to spend on their website :) The rules are simple, just follow @dodoli.ro and @prinlume and tag a friend that would like to know about the contest. There can be multiple entries from the same account as long as the tag is to a different person. Contest will last until 5th of December and we will announce the winner in our stories, using random.org website. Good luck! PS: We are using @dodoli.ro for a few months already and we love their products. They look great, kids adore them (Alexei loves the 🐭 plate!) and they have a silicon belt underneath each plate, which sticks to the table so that the baby won’t turn it over. #christmasgiftprinlume
This is my favourite corner in our new house :) #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #netherlands
We have an unbelievably beautiful weather in The Netherlands these days! Honestly, “the worst month of the year in terms of weather” as the Dutch describe it, hasn’t been so bad at all. There were a couple of rainy days but overall this was a pretty good month, with lots of sunny days and clear skies. We expected the worse when it comes to weather but in the end it was way better than we thought it will be. I guess that’s a good strategy for not being dissapointed when moving to a new country: always have lower expectations :)) Or not have any expectations at all, just take everything exactly as it is. Moving to a new country and experiencing all these weird but normal feelings is a bit similar with parenthood in the first year. We recognize the same pattern, the same roller coaster of emotions, same ups and downs :) #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #netherlands #utrecht #designeriromaniprinlume
We now live in a small town close to Utrecht, called Zeist. It is hard to believe how beautiful and tranquil this place cam be! Of course, I appreciate it very much and in the end it is exactly what we wanted but I cannot help asking myself if we are indeed ready for such a tranqui life :) During the day there are no noises, no music, no baby crying, no nothing. As if the entire town would be uninhabited. And that’s quite odd to deal with for someone who lived the entire life in all the madness from Bucharest :)) #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #zeist #greentomworld #greentom #greentomprinlume
We found this really cool Volvo car on the streets of Utrecht, which reminded us that we haven’t spoken so much about our project with @volvocarsro. Once we settle a bit with our move and all the unpacking that needs to be done (geez, this is such an overwhelming task) we will come back with more details. It was a really nice project, it was a lot (but a loooot) of work and we love the result! Hopefully next week we will post the first part of this (video) project :) Now let’s get back to unpacking, energy level below sea level (we’re in the Low Lands so that’s not surprising :D) as Alexei woke up at 5AM :D #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #utrecht #designeriromaniprinlume
Status update on our life in The Netherlands: for the past four weeks we’ve been staying in a temporary apartment in Utrecht (part of the relocation package from Andrei’s job). We now (meaning today :D) have to move to a long term accommodation that we found thanks to an agent that helped us in our house hunt (also part of the relocation package). We wanted to post more about our house hunt but guess what... we have chosen the first house we’ve seen. And that’s because we loved it and even though it is not perfect, it is great for what we need now. And honestly, there weren’t many options to choose from. The housing market here in NL is crazy and people looking for renting/buying don’t have too much time to make a decision. So basically, if you like something, you really have to act fast, otherwise the house is given to someone else. So that’s what we did. We’ve been like the Dutchies: decided, pragmatic and we acted right away. And we got the house :) We will only stay there for six months so during this time we’ll have to search more for permanent houses. But we don’t inow yet what we’ll do at the end of May 2020, if we’ll stay in NL or not, so having a six months accommodation now is quite convenient for us. We’ll come back with more details once we settle a bit in our new, cozy home (it has a huge world map in the living room so it was definitely for us :D) #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #helmond #designeriromaniprinlume
Give him soap bubbles and he’ll conquer the world :)) We’ve been testing our @greentomworld stroller for several weeks already and I have to say that the main thing that I love about it is the fact that it is so lightweight and easy to maneuver. And of course, the fact that it is the most eco friendly stroller ever created. However, there are two things that I honestly don’t like about this stroller: 1. the storage basket is... basically non existing, the diaper bag doesn’t fit (and we have a really tiny one) and there’s no space for shopping or other things parents usually need for their babies (toys, food, water etc). And 2. It doesn’t come with a rain cover and a footmuff (but there are other stroller brands that have the same policy, so that doesn’t bother me too much). So yes, we are satisfied with our new stroller but we definitely need a shopping bag (they have matching bags, made of the same fabric as the stroller), a footmuff and a raincover. I guess once we will have them, we will love it even more! #prinlumecom #prinlumemovingtonl #nl #greentom #greentomworld #greentomprinlume
