Our first glamping experience at Dragonfly Gardens, Brasov

EN: After our return back home from The Netherlands (when we were quite exposed during the trip, as we stopped in different places, some of them a bit more touristic and crowded) we decided that this summer we will not make any abroad, no matter what would happen and where this pandemic will go. We just decided to postpone any plans for travelling outside the country, even though some of the countries might have opened their borders, even though some destinations and airline companies would offer tempting prices and even though we could have seen famous places without the crowds. We decided to stop our impulsive habits of travelling only outside Romania and to take advantage of the current situation to finally make those things that we used to always postpone. Either because they were too handy, or because we were always blaming the Romanian roads for not travelling in our country or just because there was always some other opportunity of travelling abroad that we considered better and more tempting. RO: Si cum in aceste prime luni inapoi acasa ne-am dorit in primul rand sa petrecem timp cu cei dragi noua, cu familia si prietenii, calatoritul a trecut in plan secund.

EN: And during these first months back at home we mainly wanted to spend time with our dear ones, with our family and friends, so travelling is now on a second place. But even so, we made some vacation plans from the beginning of summer and slowly we’re starting to put them in practice. We desperately wanted to go to the seaside, at Tuzla beach, then in the mountains in the wilderness from Hadar Chalet, we wanted to stay in a tree house and then we were attracted by the idea of sleeping in a glamping and then of course, the highlight of our Romanian vacation, to travel with the campervan around the country (which will happen soon, at the end of September). But in this article we will only talk about our experience in a glamping, a… glamorous camping site πŸ™‚

EN: Luckily, there are plenty of glampings all around Romania and a few months ago we even wrote an article about the ones that we found (link here). But because we are newbies when it comes to camping in nature, we just wanted to choose a comfortable option (especially because we wanted to go with Alexei) where we could have a glamping experience but also have everything that we might need at hand (and it was a good decision for us, especially because few days before our trip Alexei had a pretty nasty allergy from some insect bites). Besides, we read quite a lot of reviews related to the glamping sites, some of them positive but also quite a lot of negative feedback, so we didn’t want venture in the wilderness from our very first glamping experience (no matter how gorgeous the views from Ursa Mica, Wegloo or GreenCamp might have been) so we preferred the… urban option. Just as a trial πŸ™‚ Dragonfly Gardens is actually the only urban glamping in Romania, in Brasov, at 20 minutes walk from the center (or 6 minutes drive). It is placed in a discrete garden (the gate is always closed and only the guests can enter the garden) and it is a family run business and project, launched last year.

EN: There are ten tents in the garden, each one of them decorated as a hotel room. They are big, spacious, they have beds, mattresses, bed clothes, pillows, electricity, towels, blankets, mirror (yup, mirror :D) and the decorations are entirely made by Kinga and Janos, the owners, both of them very creative and talented. Their idea was to offer the experience of staying in a tent for those who prefer a more urban life, but having all the conditions they might need at hand. The bathroom is shared, as well as in any other camping, but it is very clean and equipped (they even have a hair drier). The kitchen as well, it really looks lovely and unlike other campings, breakfast is on the house, buffet (and quite generous). There is also a game room and soon enough a pottery workshop will be available for the guests so that they can have fun during the rainy days πŸ™‚

EN: As they also have three lovely children, the courtyard is full of toys and all sort of activities for children. A Paradise, without any exaggeration :)) Alexei played all weekend long and didn’t want to leave the courtyard (but we managed to walk a bit in the city of Brasov :D). Lots of cars, sand box, activities for going up in the trees, picking up fruits from the trees (right in front of our tent we had a pear tree, a plum tree, lots of apple trees and cherry tree). During the evening the atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous, there are colorful lightnings all over the place, in the courtyard but also in the tents and during the night there are some “digital dragonflies” in the trees, some cute projections that look like real dragonflies πŸ™‚ Alexei slept through the night (he usually still wakes up several time, but now he slept until morning) but for me it was quite a hard night, even though the bed was very comfortable. It wasn’t cold at all (we actually had an air heater in the tent if needed) but it rained and it was very windy. Even though it was nice to listen the rain on the tent, I was quite scared by the wind because I could feel how the tent was moving and I was constantly imagining that it will fall on us (I don’t think that could have been possible but… newbie panics :D)20_Glamping

RO: Cum ni s-a parut noua, novicilor in ale campatului, aceasta experienta? Ne-a placut foarte mult. Prima reactie cand am intrat in gradina a fost foarte sincera.

EN: How did we find it, as camping beginners? Well we loved it. Yes, it was not in nature but we didn’t want to be isolated. We wanted to have the city close (to eat at the restaurants, to avoid cooking at the camping site – even though we could have done it in the shared kitchen), supermarket and pharmacy (in case Alexei’s allergy would have been worse). When we entered the garden, our first reaction was honest. We immediately noticed the block of apartments that is almost glued to the garden and we actually said that it feels like it ruins the atmosphere of the glamping. But the owners were completely not bothered by its presence, actually on the contrary, they were considering that it emphasized their concept of urban glamping. Basically they don;t want to compete with other glampings in nature, because what sets them apart from other glamping sites is precisely the fact that it is in the town, among typical urban buildings. To be honest, there was nothing to complain about this place. Of course, the shared bathroom was a bit stressful considering the times that we’re living but it was cleaned and disinfected several times per day and there were sanitizer gels at every sink. It might be a bit uncomfortable with a young child that still wears a diaper (especially during the night) and we were lucky to have the tent closer to the bathroom. It would have been a bit problematic if we would have stayed longer, but for a weekend experience, it was absolutely lovely πŸ™‚ 28_Glamping
