RO: Puglia pare să fie noua Toscana, cel puțin asta demonstrează ultimii ani în care regiunea din “tocul” Italiei a luat un avânt fantastic în ceea ce privește turismul. Cine nu știe de sătucul cu case de pitici în formă de stupi? Cine n-a auzit de “Cenușăreasa” Italiei, cea mai săracă provincie a țării, dar cu atât de mult potențial turistic, ascuzand locuri superbe, sate albe cocoțate în vârf de deal și mâncăruri, o da, mâncăruri delicioase? Ei bine da, confirmăm și noi (dacă mai era nevoie de vreo altă confirmare), că Italia le are pe toate. Și pentru toți! Iar pentru cei care au văzut și Roma cea fermecătoare, și Toscana cea boemă și romantică, și Sicilia cea încântătoare, Milano-ul cel chic ori Veneția cea veșnic cuceritoare, există încă o regiune și-încă un motiv în plus să îndrăgească Italia și mai mult: Puglia. Și adevărul e că nicăieri nu am simțit Italia mai Italie ca aici 🙂 Scutere Vespa pe fiecare străduță, Fiat-uri de tot soiul, bătrânei relaxați citind ziarul cu un espresso într-o mână și un pasticciotto cu ricotta în cealaltă, orășele mici și adorabile (poate că cele mai frumoase și mai intime pe care le-am văzut în Italia), mâncare (prea) bună și riposo 😀 Mult prea sfântul riposo, pauza de prânz de nu-știm-câte-ore a italienilor (da, magazine și restaurante închise când ți-e lumea mai dragă :D). Puglia pare un stereotip italian, un clișeu sau un cadru de film, nicidecum realitate. Definiția pură a Italiei, exact așa cum te aștepți s-o vezi întâia oară 🙂

EN: Puglia seems to be the new Tuscany in terms of tourism, at least that’s what the last years prove, when everybody wants to see the region from “the heel” of Italy. Is there anyone who hasn’t heard about the dwarf village with houses like beehives? Who doesn’t know about Italy’s “Cinderella”, the poorest region of the country but with so much touristic potential, hiding real gems, gorgeous hilltop white villages and foods, ooooh delicious foods? So yup, we have to confirm (not that Italy actually needs one more confirmation) that Italy has… everything. For everyone! And for those who have seen the charming Rome, the bohemian and romantic Tuscany, the enchanting Sicily, the chic Milan or the gorgeous Venice, there is another region and another reason to love Italy even more: and that’s Puglia. And the truth is that Italy is nowhere so authentic as it is here 🙂 Vespa scouters all over the place, all type of Fiats, relaxed old men reading the newspaper with an espresso in one hand and a ricotta pasticciotto in the other, adorable small towns (probabaly the most beautiful ones we have ever seen in Italy), (way too) good food and riposo 😀 The holy riposo, the God-knows-how-long Italian lunch break (yup, the shops and the restaurants are always closed when you need them :D). Puglia seems to be an Italian stereotype, a cliche or a movie set, anything but reality. The pure definition of Italy, exactly as you expect to see it when you’re first visiting it 🙂  



RO: Și pentru că am vrut să vedem cât mai multe dintre locurile acestea minunate (îndeosebi cele la sud de Bari, deși și partea de nord are câțiva ași în mânecă) am ales să închiriem mașină, ca de altfel de fiecare dată când venim în Italia, și în general am sfătui pe oricine să facă același lucru. Atâta doar că în Puglia se conduce mai rău ca oriunde altundeva în Italia, iar drumurile sunt de la proaste în jos. Mult în jos 😀 Indicatoarele și regulile de circulație sunt pentru turiști (sau nici măcar pentru ei), se conduce agresiv, sensurile giratorii sunt o mare aglomerație de mașini în care nimeni nu dă vreodată prioritate iar respectul în trafic e o glumă. După cum spuneam, drumurile sunt infernal de proaste și înguste, așa că am recomanda o mașină cât mai mică posibil-veșnicul Fiat 500 e de departe cea mai bună variantă (l-am fi ales și noi doar că nu mai încăpem toți trei în el :D). Dar basta! Facem haz de necaz și nicidecum nu blamăm poporul italian, pentru care timpul curge altfel (cel puțin în sud), mai liniștit și mai încet decât pentru noi 🙂

EN: And because we wanted to see as many as possible places (especially the ones south of Bari, but the north part also has some aces up the sleeve), we have chosen to rent a car (actually as always when visiting Italy) and in general, we would advice anyone to do so. Just that in Puglia the driving is quite a challenge, it’s worse than anywhere in Italy and the roads are really, really bad. Can’t stress enough how bad they are 😀 The signs and the rules are just for tourists (or not even for them), the driving is quite aggressive, the roundabouts are just a huge pile of cars where nobody ever gives way and respecting the others in traffic is just a silly joke. As we were saying above, the roads are narrow and really bad, so we would recommend to have the tiniest car possible – the small Fiat 500 is by far the best option (we would have chosen it as well but we don’t have enough space in it for the three of us :D). But basta! We’re laughing and not blaming the Italian people, because here, the times goes at a different pace (at least in the south), everything is more relaxed, slower and way more tranquil that we are used to 🙂 

RO: Bari nu este neapărat cel mai turistic ori cel mai impresionant oraș din Puglia, însă parcă nu-i nici de ocolit. Deși inițial chiar voiam să nu trecem deloc prin Bari (ca mai toți turiștii veniți în zonă), cumva nu am rezistat tentației de a ne plimba puțin pe promenada faimoasă Lungomare și prin labirintul de străduțe înguste din centrul vechi (Bari Vecchia), unde oamenii își atârnă cu toată nonșalanța posibilă rufele la uscat pe balcoane.  De altfel, mirosul de rufe proaspăt spălate, străzile înguste, scuterele Vespa, micuțele magazine “panificio” care vând pâine și focaccia proaspăt scoase din cuptor, clădirile vechi, delicioasele prăjituri pasticiotti de la renumita cafenea Martinucci bătrâneii simpatici citindu-și ziarul în dimineață, iar vara, femei care fac paste orecchiette chiar în mijlocul străzii, toate acestea parcă definesc Bari-ul. Și în ciuda faptului că este un oraș mare și modern, centrul vechi amintește fix de satucele superbe de la sud de Bari pe care cei mai mulți turiști aleg să le vadă în Puglia.

EN: Bari is not actually the most touristic or the most impressive town in Puglia, however it is worth paying a visit. Even though we initially had absolutely no plans to see Bari (that’s quite common among tourists), we really wanted to spend some time walking around the famous Lungomare promenade and go through the maze of narrow streets from the city center, the Vespa scouters, the tiny shops called “panificio” selling bread and freshly baked focaccia, the old buildings, the delicious pasticiotti from the famous Martinucci coffee shop, the cute old men reading the newspaper in the morning and the women cooking orecchiette pasta during summer time, right in the middle of the street – all these seem to define Bari. And against the fact that this is a big and modern town, the old town center reminds us of the gorgeous small villages that tourists choose to visit. 





RO: Polignano a Mare este însă o cu totul și cu totul altă poveste 🙂 La doar o aruncătură de băț la sud de Bari, este unul dintre cele mai frumoase orășele din Puglia. Nici nu-i de mirare că-i plin social media-ul de poze cu renumita plajă Lama Monachile, cu restaurantul din grotă (Grotta Palazzesse) ori cu străduțele înguste și casele albe cu flori la pervaz. Deși la finalul excursiei am conchis că perioada aleasă nu a fost deloc grozavă (ianuarie și februarie sunt complet înafara sezonului și multe dintre hoteluri și restaurante sunt pur și simplu închise iar străzile sunt complet pustii), în Polignano a Mare a fost chiar minunat să ne plimbăm singuri pe străzi iar renumita plajă Lama Monachile să fie goală. GOALĂ! Centrul vechi este superb iar labirintul de străzi înguste cu clădiri albe este ca scos dintr-un platou de filmare! Cât despre mâncare… foarte multe opțiuni nu am avut, mai ales că am nimerit în perioada de riposo, însă restaurantul care ne interesa cel mai mult era deschis 🙂 Pescaria se numește, se află în piața Aldo Moro și este specializat pe sendvisuri cu pește-absolut fabuloase, le recomandăm din toată inima 🙂 Ar fi fost interesant să încercăm și restaurantul Grota Palazzesse, cel care apare în toate pozele de pe internet din Polignano a Mare, însă pe timpul iernii nu este deschis. Ne-ar fi plăcut să mergem și în Monopoli, însă nu am mai reușit să ajungem.

EN: But Polignano a Mare is a totally different story 🙂 At just a stone’s throw away south of Bari, it is one of the most beautiful small towns in Puglia. No wonder that the entire social media is full of pictures taken at the famous Lama Monachile beach, at the restaurant built in a cave (Grotta Palazzesse) or with the narrow tiny streets and white houses with flowers at the windowsill. Even though at the end of our trip we concluded that the period we have chosen to visit Puglia was definitely not the greatest (January and February are completely out of season and most of the hotels or restaurants are simply closed and the streets are empty), in Polignano a Mare was really pleasant to walk around just the three of us, and the famous Lama Monachile beach was really stunning seen so… empty. EMPTY! The old town center is gorgeous and the maze of narrow streets with white houses is just taken out of a movie set! As for the food… we actually didn’t have so many options, as we got there right in the middle of riposo, but the restaurant that we wanted to try was open 🙂 Pescaria is the name of the restaurant, it is in Plazza Aldo Moro and it has some pretty amazing fish sandwiches – absolutely fabulous sandwiches, we totally recommend them 🙂 It would have been interesting to try Grota Palazzesse restaurant as well, the one that is shown in any picture with Polignano a Mare, but during winter time it is closed. We would have also wanted to get to Monopoli, but we didn’t manage to get there.
