Way back home – Day 4 & 5 – Vienna – Bucharest

In orice caz, contrar asteptarilor noastre, hotelul era destul de plin.

EN: The fourth day was the shortest day. And that’s because we decided to drive only to Szeged, knowing that the chances of entering isolation for two weeks were very high (therefore we couldn’t accommodate in Romania). We hoped until the last moment that on Monday the list of countries for which isolation is no longer mandatory will be updated, but unfortunately this did not happen. So we spent Monday morning in Vienna, on a short walk in the MuseumsQuartier (our favorite area of Vienna), and then we drove only four hours to Szeged, where we stayed for the night. Even though until then we only chose AirBnB apartments, this time we were a bit scared, we didn’t know if it was right to take an AirBnB apartment in Hungary, so we thought we would be better at the hotel. We stayed at the Science Hotel, a very nice hotel but quite untidy (our room was not clean at all, dirty armchairs, dust). Or … maybe this pandemic made us too picky and demanding. Anyways, contrary to our expectations, the hotel was quite full.

EN: The next day we left Szeged in the morning and decided to enter the country at the border crossing in Turnu. We received many warnings that the border crossing at Nadlac 2 was extremely crowded and that the waiting times mentioned on the website (politiadefrontiera.ro) were not real (way longer in reality than what was mentioned on the website). We couldn’t afford a two-hour wait with Alexei in the car, and then other seven hours of driving to Bucharest, so we chose Turnu border crossing, even though it was longer trip. The road is not great at all, there were works and traffic lights due to road constructions but we were the only car at customs and the control lasted maximum ten minutes. It was not a long check (maybe because our registration plates were Romanian), we simply filled a document stating which country we came from, where we would live and the phone number. They informed us about the two-week period of self-isolation, with the mention that if we do not respect it and we are discovered, we will go directly into quarantine (and we will be fined). Of course, this rule does not apply to all states, but only to those with a coefficient of new daily illnesses below 5% per 1 million inhabitants (for an average of two weeks). The Netherlands, with a small population, is still slightly above this percentage. We will avoid making any comment on this rule πŸ™‚ This is the rule, we will comply with it, whether we agree or not, or if it seems fair or not.

EN: The fifth day was the longest. We drove an hour from Szeged to the border, then other seven hours to Bucharest. But we made a lot of stops along the way, because Alexei got bored pretty quickly, at least in the second part of the day. After the first days of driving only 4-5 hours a day, we wondered if this slow pace was a bit exaggerated, but the last day convinced us that we did the right thing. It was hard for us too, but especially for Alexei to sit in the car for so many hours, in the same position in the car seat. No matter how much fun activities we had at hand, at one point he simply lost his temper, he didn’t want to stay in the car at all. So even though we left the hotel in Szeged at 7:30 in the morning, we arrived in Bucharest after 12 hours, at 7:30 in the evening.

EN: We are now publishing this article from the sofa of our apartment, terribly tired after the long journey, surrounded by boxes and things thrown everywhere. We don’t realize how we feel yet, we probably need a little time to think, and this two-week isolation will be ideal for this. But for now … it’s good to be home πŸ™‚

Va treziti la devreme in mod normal?
Trezirea fiind in jur de 8.
