Baby Wearing for Newborns – Marsupi Breeze

EN: When it comes to baby products there are so many options, brands and stores that every decision becomes overwhelming. You don’t know what to choose, what is suitable and what is not, what is ergonomic and what is not, what is baby friendly and what is not. So you either end up buying a lot of useless stuff or spending a fortune on what is advertised as “the best on the market”. That was the case with almost all the products we bought for baby Alexei, especially with the baby wearing systems that we knew nothing about. Correction, we knew ABSOLUTELY nothing about πŸ˜€

Astfel ca da, am ales sa il tinem in brate, sa il consolam, sa il iubim ori de cate ori are nevoie.

EN: Ok, the story starts with the moment when we realized (as if it was the supreme revelation) that our baby need to be held in our arms… continuouslyΒ πŸ™‚ Except the walks in the park in the stroller and the (few) moments when we was sleeping in the MosesΒ basket (we have this one). We know that there are many theories that do not agree with holding the baby so much but we thought that a newborn baby (that can barely understand in what world he lives in) cannot be considered spoiled in his first months of life. And honestly, the exterogestation and the fourth trimester of pregnancy seem both plausible for us, both saying that up until three months of life, a baby needs help for adjusting to the hostile environment that he came in and offering him affection will not spoil him and will not lead to unpleasant habits. So yes, we have chosen to hold him in our arms, to soothe and love him as much as he needs.

EN: The only problem with skin-on-skin and holding the baby is that you have no flexibility. You are completely stuck in bed or couch and for a person that used to be extremely active, this might be hard to handle πŸ™‚ But thanks God, there’s a solution for this problem! It’s surprising that there are things that solve any maternity challenge πŸ™‚ And that’s how we found out about the famous baby wearing systems. OK, so we knew what was the solution but the next challenge was to choose what system to buy because obviously, the options are endless. We were initially focusing on an elastic wrap that we received as a present from some friends. Great invention, easy to wear (thanks to Youtube and all the detailed explanations that newbies like us needed), easy to store, easy to carry. However, the baby was screaming and crying blue murder whenever we wrapped him. We then realized that it was just to hot outside for wearing the wrap as the baby had three layers of fabric on him, the body and the diaper. Simply too much for the hot temperatures we have here in June. But we’re not giving up, we’ll use it for sure in autumn. Ah, and we found an interesting website that helped us in our research (the photos below are taken from that site).

EN: Then we got to the ErgoBaby systems. We read, we have made some research and found out that these are extremely good (taticool and the staff from Bebe Supermarket say that this might be the best system on the market), ergonomic, easy to mount, with different positions for the baby and very comfortable for the parent that is wearing him. We have chosen the Omni 360 one from Taticool Shop but even though the instructions say that it can be used since the first days of life, we just thought that the baby was too small and fragile for this system (it is recommended to use it from 3,2 kg weight and Alexei was smaller than that). As this system was not so great for summer, we decided to use this later, when the baby will be bigger.

EN: After even more research, we found out that newborns should only be held in wrap (elastic or fabric wrap, according to preferences), ring slings or marsupium. We were clear about the wrap, too many layers of fabric for the summer heats. The sling just didn’t seem safe for us (probably because we are not able to use it properly) and the marsupium… oh well, that was love at first sight πŸ˜€ We had no expectation that it will work after seeing that our baby was refusing all the other systems, but surprisingly, right after the marsupium was attached, Alexei instantly fell asleep.Β So we decided to choose Marsupi BreezeΒ from hiphip.ro. The summer version, lighter, made from linen, perfect for tiny, tiny newborn babies πŸ™‚ Theoretically this should also be used from 3,5 kg weight but if the baby is smaller, it has a special newborn insert so that it can be used for any weight and age. We have to admit that beside all these, we also loved the story of the MarsupiΒ brand πŸ™‚ First of all, we had no idea that this is a Romanian brand! A family with three children has created the entire concept of baby wearing system, thinking about offering a simple yet a safe system that can hold the babies from the first days of life.

EN: We can’t say that there is such thing as “the best” baby wearing system. Each baby and each parent has different needs, so the fact that there are so many options turns out to be quite beneficial πŸ™‚ We don’t know what we will use later, but for the moment, for our newborn baby, Marsupi Breeze seems to be the best option. It sustains the baby’s head, the legs stay in the recommended M position that protects the hips, the back is also properly sustained. It is light, made from natural fabrics, easy to carry (it fits in the handbag that the mother is carrying, it only weights 200 grams :D), it can be easily mounted on the body (velcro attachment, no buckles or rings). But no matter what baby wearing system would be considered the coolest, the most important thing is to try it before buying it. Hiphip.ro has an adorable boutique store in Bucharest where you can get all the information needed and where you can try and test all their systems. We simply love their store and the entire concept. And besides the baby wearing systems (they have more brands but we were focused on Marsupi and Manduca), they also have lots of gorgeous baby clothes, made from natural fabrics. But we’ll talk about them in another post πŸ™‚ Aaa and by the way, there is a Facebook group where people can ask different questions about baby wearing, it might be useful in case you need more opinions and advisesΒ from other mothers .
