RO: Sevilla e… definiția Andaluciei. Nici nu știu de câte ori am citit pe blogurile de călătorie expresia “Quien no ha visto Sevilla, no ha visto maravilla” (cine nu a văzut Sevilla, nu a văzut nimic), însă îmi părea un simplu clișeu care suna bine, dar care efectiv nu mă impresiona deloc. După ce am văzut Plaza de Espana (primul obiectiv turistic vizitat în această scurtă vizită în Sevilla), am zis că în mod cert așa îmi voi începe și eu articolul despre acest oraș. Cu un clișeu… adevărat 🙂 Pentru că fiecare colțisor al acestui oraș ne-a plăcut amândurora nesperat de mult. Chiar ne gândeam și ne temeam că am ajuns într-un punct în care orașele europene nu ne mai pot surprinde, fie ele micuțe, autentice și mai puțin exploatate turistic, însă Sevilla ne-a demonstrat contrariul (slavă cerurilor :D). Prin flamenco-ul dansat la fiecare colț de stradă, prin bucuria de a mânca (și cât de mult ne lipsea asta după trei luni locuite în Olanda!), mai ales prin bucuria de a trăi, de a vorbi, de a interacționa cu oamenii, prin forfota aceea continuă din cartierul Santa Cruz, prin arhitectura superbă și clima atât de prietenoasă. Viața Sevillei este în plină stradă, printre oameni, piețe aglomerate, baruri de tapas delicioase și alei pline de portocali. Și dacă ar fi să spun primul lucru care îmi trece prin minte atunci când mă gândesc la capitala Andaluciei cu siguranță ar fi mirosul de portocale de pe stradă! Și încântarea sinceră a lui Alexei când vedea portocale în copaci 🙂

EN: Seville is… the definition of Andalucia. I honestly don’t know how many times I read on the travel blogs the expression “Quien no ha visto Sevilla, no ha visto maravilla” (who hasn’t seen Seville, hasn’t seen a thing) but it seemed like a typical cliche, it’s sounds good but it doesn’t impress me at all. After we’ve seen Plaza de Espana (the first touristic attraction seen in this short visit to Seville) I decided to start this article with exactly the same phrase. With a cliche… but a real one 🙂 Because we truly loved every corner of this city. We were actually talking about this and we were quite afraid that we got into a point here no European city can impress us anymore, even if they are small, authentic or less touristic. But thanks God, Seville proved us wrong 😀 And that’s through the flamenco dances at every corner of the streets, through the joy of eating (and boy, how much we missed it in these three months since we moved to The Netherlands!), through the joy of living, talking, interacting with people, through all that continuous hustle and bustle from Santa Cruz neighborhood, through the gorgeous architecture and the friendly weather. Seville’s life is right in the street, among people, crowded plazas, tapas bars and alleys with orange trees. And if I were to say the first thing that comes into my mind when I think about the capital of Andalucia, it would definitely be the smell of oranges on the streets! And the honest happiness on Alexei’s face when seeing oranges in the trees 🙂  

RO: Noi am ajuns în Sevilla cu un zbor direct din Eindhoven cu Ryan Air și a fost prima vacanță din ultimii ani când am ales să nu mai închiriem mașină. Inițial plănuiam să ne plimbăm și înafara Sevillei (să ajungem și în Granada), însă ulterior ne-am dat seama că orașul merită pe deplin două zile pline de explorat. Mașina este destul de greu de folosit în centrul orașului (micuț, cu străzi înguste și puține parcări, spre deloc chiar). Transportul în comun este nesperat de bine pus la punct (și ieftin, cel puțin în comparație cu Olanda), de la aeroport am luat linia specială de autobuz Especial Aeropuerto care ne-a lăsat chiar în apropierea hotelului (autobuzul vine la fiecare 30 de minute și costă 4 euro de persoană), iar pentru a ajunge în centrul orașului am folosit tramvaiul. Nici variantă taxiurilor nu este rea, mai ales că este un preț fix de 26 euro pentru a ajunge în centru, însă este nevoie de bani cash (noi nu am avut scoși) și din păcate nu au scaune de copil. Ne-am cazat la NH Collection (doar pentru că suntem membri în programul lor de loialitate și aveam ceva beneficii adiționale), însă nu îl recomandăm neapărat, este destul de scump, puțin învechit și cam departe de centru. În schimb am văzut foarte multe apartamente AirBnB extrem de interesante, decorate frumos și cu locații fabuloase, chiar în centru.

EN: We arrived in Sevilla with a direct flight from Eindhoven with Ryan Air and it was our first trip in the last few years when we didn’t rent a car. We initially planned to see some of the surroundings of Seville (and also to visit Granada) but we then realized that the city is worth spending two days. The car would have been difficult to use in the town center (which is small, it has narrow streets and few parking slots, almost none). Public transport is also very organized (and cheap, at least compared to The Netherlands), we used the special bus line called Especial Aeropuerto that brought us close to the hotel (the bus is every 30 minutes and costs 4 euros per person), and we used the tram to get to the city center. Using taxi can also be an option, the price is fixed (26 euros to get to the center) but they don’t accept cards (only cash) and usually they don’t have child seats. We stayed at NH Collection Hotel (just because we are members in their loyalty program and we had some advantages) but we don’t necessarily recommend it as it is too pricey, a bit old and not quite close to the center. But we’ve seen some really interesting AirBnB apartments, nicely decorated and with some fabulous locations, right in the center.




RO: Se spune că Sevilla ar fi locul în care au apărut pentru prima oară tapas. Mâncărurile lor tipice, în porții mici. Începând cu tortilla de cartofi, omleta spaniolilor (mereu avem aceeași dezbatere legată de tortilla, pe care o confundăm mereu cu pâinea mexicană), pâine cu diverse bunătățuri, cartofi alli-olli (cu maioneză și usturoi), legume, măsline, supe reci (cum ar fi delicioasa salmorejo), până la paella, pește, fructe de mare sau pur și simplu jamon. Tapas nu sunt un fel de mâncare anume, pot fi absolut orice tip de mâncare, câtă vreme sunt în porții mici și se servesc alături de o sangria sau orice altă băutură. Barurile de tapas sunt renumite în Sevilla și recunoaștem, au fost principalul nostru focus în această excursie. Cele mai cunoscute sunt cele de pe strada Mateos Gago, cea care pornește din dreptul turnului Giralda. Toate sunt tentante, noi am ales locurile unde am avut loc (pentru că la ora prânzului era plin peste tot). Iar cea mai mare dovadă că ne-am petrecut foarte mult timp în aceste baruri de tapas o reprezintă simplul fapt că nu avem nicio poză cu aceste mâncăruri 😀 Nu rezistau mai mult de câteva minute pe masă :)) Pe lângă cartierul Santa Cruz renumit pentru barurile de tapas, un alt loc foarte apreciat pentru mâncăruri tipice este Mercado Lonja de Barranco, o hală (nu foarte mare totuși) decorată foarte frumos, cu multe restaurante diferite și un spațiu comun de mâncat. Se află chiar pe marginea râului Guadalquivir, lângă podul Triana (sau podul Isabel II).

EN: People say that Seville is the place where tapas were invented. These are their typical dishes, in small portions, from the potato tortilla, the Spanish omelette (we always have the same debate regarding tortilla, as we usually take it for the Mexican bread), bread with all kind of goodies, alli-olli potatoes (with mayonnaise and garlic), vegetables, olives, cold soups (as the delicious salmorejo) to paella, fish, seafood or simply jamon. Tapas is not a particular dish, it can be everything as long as it is in small portions and are served next to a sangria or any other drink. Tapas bars are famous in Seville and we have to admit that they were our main focus in this trip. The most famous ones are on Mateos Gago street, the one that starts from Giralda tower. All of them are tempting, we have chosen the places where we found free tables (as all of them were full at lunch). And the way we prove that we spent so much time in these tapas bars is the simple fact that we have absolutely no picture with these foods 😀 They didn’t last long on the table :)) Besides Santa Cruz neighborhood, which is really known for the tapas bar, another appreciated place to have some typical Spanish foods is Mercado Lonja de Barranco, a market place nicely decorated, with lots of different restaurants and a common area for eating. This is on the Guadalquivir river, close to Triana Bridge (or Isabel II Bridge).

RO:  Cât despre cea mai bună perioadă de vizitat Sevilla… probabil că cel mai indicat ar fi de evitat vara, când este insuportabil de cald. Iarnă sunt temperaturi suficient de ridicate iar prețurile la avioane și cazări sunt accesibile, în schimb primăvara, pe perioada sărbătorii Feria de Abril (o adevărată nebunie cu dans și costume volanate și mult flamenco) este aglomerat dar și extrem de interesant. Lumea dansează în mijlocul străzii, este o sărbătoare a dansului, a mâncării și a socializării. Sinceri să fim, ne tentează teribil o a doua vizită în Sevilla în această perioadă. Pentru cei interesați, Feria de Abril în 2020 va fi între 26 aprilie și 2 mai.

EN: As for the best time to visit Seville… probably it would be best to avoid summer, when it’s unbearably hot.  During winter the temperature is pleasant and prices for flight tickets and accommodation are better, but during spring, especially during Feria de Abril (a total madness with dancing and frilled costumes and a lot of flamenco) it is extremely crowded but also very interesting. People are dancinf in the middle of the streets as this is a celebration of dance, food and socializing. To be honest, we are very tempted to visit Seville for the second time during Feria de Abril. For those who are interested, Feria de Abril in 2020 will be held between 26th of April and 2nd of May.






RO: Am fi vrut să avem suficient timp să ne pregătim pentru excursia în Sevilla așa cum o facem de obicei (cu multă documentare, plan pe zile, mult plimbat și multe poze), însă Sevilla chiar este genul acela de oraș ale cărui atracții merită descoperite din întâmplare. Nu este un oraș mare iar multe din locurile turistice sunt în centrul istoric, care poate fi parcurs în întregime pe jos. Însă vom include în acest articol ce am descoperit noi în aceste două zile pline în Sevilla, precum și locurile în care nu am ajuns (în principal din cauze bebelușești, dar și ca să avem pretext să mai facem o vizită în toamnă :D). Nu am recomanda nimănui să alerge după obiective turistice în Sevilla, după vizitat de dragul de a bifa cât mai multe atracții, ci dimpotrivă, am spune că cel mai bun mod de a vedea orașul este prin a ne bucura de tot ce are de oferit. Pentru că atmosfera orașului este cea care rămâne în mintea și mai ales în sufletul celor care îl vizitează, mai degrabă decât o atracție turistică în sine. Însă le vom înșirui în cele ce urmează, pentru că pot fi de folos celor care își planifică o vacanță în Sevilla.

EN: We would have wanted to have enough time to prepare for our trip to Seville, as we usually do it (with a lot of research, a day by day plan, a lot of walking and taking pictures) but Seville is that type of city that is worth discovering by chance. Seville is not a big city and most of the touristic attractions are right in the historical center, at walking distance. But we will include in this article what we have discovered in two full days in Seville, as well as the places we didn’t get to see (mainly because of babyrelated reasons, but also to have an excuse to visit it again in fall :D). We would never recommend chasing touristic attrcations in Seville, actually on the contrary, we would say that the best way to see this city is to enjoy everything that it has to offer. Because the vibe of the city is the one that remains in the heart of every person that visits Seville, not a touristic attraction itself. But we will make a list of them because it might be useful for those who are planning a vacation in Seville.
Plaza de Espana
RO: Fără doar și poate, când spunem Sevilla ne gândim la Plaza de Espana. Este uriașă, impresionantă și arată fenomenal de bine. A fost construită în 1928 pentru expoziția Ibero-Americană iar în momentul de față este folosită de către Guvern. Am fost de trei ori în această piață în cele două zile petrecute în Sevilla, de fiecare dată cu idei noi de poze 🙂 Piața este una dintre cele mai mari din toată Spania iar arhitectura să e cu adevărat spectaculoasă. De jur împrejurul ei se află și un canal pe care se poate merge cu barca (nu și pe timpul iernii totuși) iar în centrul ei sunt foarte multe trăsuri cu cai, apreciate de turiști dar pe care noi încercăm să le evităm pe cât posibil.

EN: Without a doubt, when we say Seville we think about Plaza de Espana. It is huge, impressive and it looks amazing. It was built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Expo and now it is used by the Government. We’ve been in this square three times in two days, each time with new ideas of pictures 🙂 The square is one of the largests in Spain and its architecture is truly spectacular. All around the square there is a canal where tourists can have a boat ride  (not during winter time though) and in the center of the square there are lots of horse drawn carriages, much appreciated by tourists but we try to avoid the mas much as possible.
Turnul Giralda
RO: Turnul Giralda este considerat simbolul orașului, iar priveliștea orașului văzut de sus este cu adevărat spectaculoasă (cel puțin din pozele pe care le-am văzut). Nu am avut însă cum să urcăm cu Alexei (având căruciorul și alte multe accesorii bebelusesti), și nici nu voiam să irosim din timpul și așa destul de puțin în Sevilla stând la coada de intrare.

EN: Giralda Tower is considered the symbol of the city and the view of Seville seen from above is truly spectacular (at least from the pictures we’ve seen). We could climb the stairs with Alexei (we also had the stroller and other tons of accessories with us) and we didn’t want to waste our limited time in Seville waiting in the queue to enter the tower.
Catedrala, Palatul Alcazar, Arhivele Indiilor
RO: Aceste trei clădiri fac parte din patrimoniul Unesco și sunt cele mai vizitate atracții turistice din Sevilla. Din păcate, nu am apucat să le vedem (decât pe dinafară), însă plănuim să le vedem pe îndelete în excursia următoare. Catedrala este chiar cea mai mare catedrală gotică din lume (ba chiar se spune că aici ar fi mormântul lui Cristofor Columb, însă nu este o informație precisă, întrucât același lucru îl spune și Republica Dominicană :D), Palatul Alcazar pare nespus de frumos (împreună cu grădinile impresionante) iar Arhivele Indiilor conțin o mulțime de documente și hărți ale marilor exploratori.

EN: These three buildings are on Unesco’s World Heritage list and are the most visited touristic attractions in Seville. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see them (only on the outside) but we’re planning to see them properly in our next trip. The cathedral is the largest gothic cathedral in the world (it is actually said that Cristofor Columb would be burried here, but this is not a precise information as Dominican Republic says the same thing :D), Alcazar Palace seems to be incredibly beautiful (along with the impressive gardens) and the Archives of  the Indies contain lots of documents and maps of the greatest explorers.

Cartierul Santa Cruz
RO: Cel mai renumit cartier al orașului, cu multe străduțe înguste, boeme, piețe mici cu portocali de jur împrejur (cum ar fi Plaza de Dona Evira sau Plaza de Santa Maria, cea mai mică piață din Sevilla), multe baruri de tapas și o atmosferă foarte drăguță și specifică locului. Este fostul cartier evreiesc, aflat chiar în centru (pornește de la turnul Giralda, înspre strada Mateos Gago și împrejurimile sale), și este absolut imposibil de ratat. Toate drumurile duc în Santa Cruz 🙂

EN: The most famous neighborhood in town, with lots of bohemian narrow streets, small squares with orange trees around them (as plaza Dona Elvira or Plaza Santa Maria, the smallest square in Seville), lots of tapas bars and a really nice typical atmosphere. This is the the former Jewish neighborhood, right in the center of the town (it starts from Giralda tower, towards Mateos Gago street and its surroundings) and it is absolutely impossible to miss. All roads lead to Santa Cruz 🙂


Cartierul Triana
RO: Nu am ajuns în acest cartier, însă se spune că ar fi partea mai autentică și mai puțin turistică a orașului, unde a luat naștere dansul flamenco. Se află de cealaltă parte a râului Guadalquivir și e faimos pentru restaurantele de tapas (se pare că ar fi chiar mai bune decât cele din Santa Cruz). Are o istorie destul de tumultoasă, este fostul cartier de gipsies, cărora nu le era permis accesul în oraș, însă acum este unul dintre cele mai apreciate cartiere, fiind un loc al artiștilor și al dansatorilor de flamenco. O priveliște frumoasă deasupra acestui cartier poate fi văzută din turnul Torre del Oro, de pe marginea râului Guadalquivir.

EN: We didn’t see this neighborhood, but people say that this might be the most authentic and least touristic area of the town, where flamenco dance was born. This is on the other part of Guadalquivir river and it’s famous for its tapas restaurants (these are known to be even better than the ones from Santa Cruz). It has quite a history, it is the former neighborhood of the gipsies who were not allowed inside the town, but now it is one of the most appreciated neighborhoods, being a place where artists and flamenco dancers are most renowned. A gorgeous view above this neighborhood can be seen from Torre del Oro tower, on the Guadalquivir river.

Plaza de Cabildo
RO: Nu apare în traseele turistice de obicei, fiind doar o piață micuță și circulară, unde nu se întâmplă absolut nimic. Însă tocmai acesta a fost motivul principal pentru care am vrut să o vedem și fotografiem. Simplul fapt că este atât de mică și autentică, cu arcadele acelea atât de fotogenice și tipic spaniolești, ne-a făcut să venim chiar de două ori în acest loc (se află în centru, foarte aproape de Arhivele Indiei).

EN: It is not included in the touristic itineraries, as it’s just a tiny circular square, where nothing actually happens. But that’s exactly the main reason why we wanted to see it and photograph it. The simple fact that it is so small and authentic, with those photogenic arcades, so typical to Spain, made us go there two times in our short visit to Sevilla (it is right in the city center, really close to the Archives of the Indies.


Metropol Parasol
RO: Aceasta este cea mai mare structură de lemn din lume și este construită în formă de ciuperci (Las Setas, cum se mai numesc). Sunt o mulțime de pasarele interesante deasupra acestei construcții, de unde se poate vedea o priveliște bestială deasupra orașului. Merită văzută, chiar dacă mulți nu sunt de acord cu această construcție, considerând-o poate puțin desprinsă din peisajul sevilian. Însă nouă ne-a plăcut 🙂

EN: This is the biggest wooden structure in the world and it is built in the shape of mushrooms (Las Setas, as they are called in Spanish). There are many interesting walkways above this construction, where there can be seen a gorgeous view above the city. It is worth seeing, even though many disagree with this construction, considering it a bit out of the Sevillian landscape. But we actually loved it 🙂
Flamenco
RO: Am fi vrut din tot sufletul să vedem un spectacol de flamenco, însă știm că acest lucru este aproape imposibil cu un copil mic. Spectacolele sunt foarte pasionale iar dansatorii au nevoie de liniște deplină (ni s-a spus că se lasă cu lacrimi, atât de emoționantă e atmosfera) iar accesul cu cei mici nu este permis. Am văzut însă câteva dansuri de flamenco în plină stradă, ceea ce ne-a bucurat nespus! Dacă am fi fost singuri, am fi ales să mergem la spectacolul de la Carboneria, pe care ni l-a recomandat foarte multă lume. Există de asemenea și muzeul dansului flamenco, pe care din păcate l-am ratat în această vizită.

EN: We really wanted to see a flamenco show but we know that this is almost impossible with a small child. The shows are very passional and the dancers need silence (we’ve been told that people usually cry, that’s how emotional the atmosphere is) and access with the little ones is not permitted. But we’ve seen some flamenco shows right in the street, which made us really happy! If we would have been there alone, we would have chosen to go to Carboneria to see a flamenco show, many persons have recommended us to go there. There is also the Flamenco Danco Museum, which we unfortunately missed.

RO: Sevilla a fost o surpriză neașteptată și ne-a convins că avem nevoie de viața plină de… viață din acest oraș 🙂 Poate că nu am putea locui în Spania, însă vizita aceasta ne-a dat de gândit. Viața în Olanda este mult mai liniștită, mai calculată, mai rațională, dar avem nevoie de agitația vieții de oraș, de oameni sociabili, de forfota unui oraș mare. Oricât de mult ne-am dorit să trăim în liniște sau să stăm într-un sătuc departe de trafic, gălăgie și aglomerație, odată ce am experimentat acest tip de viață, am realizat că nu este ceea ce ne trebuie. Cel puțin nu acum, nu anii aceștia când avem încă atât de multă nevoie de… agitația specifică vârstei. Iar Sevilla ne-a demonstrat ce înseamnă un oraș vibrant, vesel, plin de viață, muzică, mâncare bună. Și ne-a plăcut enorm! Își merită pe deplin titlul de “Bijuteria Andaluciei”, oricât de turistic sau cliseic ar fi acesta 🙂

EN: Sevilla was an unexpected surprise and convinced us that we need the life full of excitment from this city 🙂 We might not want to live in Spain but this visit gave us some food for thought. Life in The Netherlands is more tranquil, more predictable and more rational but we need the city hustle and bustle and socializing. No matter how much we wanted to live in a tranquil place and stay away from the traffic, the noise and the crowds, once we had the experience of living such a life we realized this is not what we need. At least not now, in these years when we need the so typical to our age agitation 🙂 And Sevilla proved us what a vibrant, happy, full of life, music and good food a city can be! And we loved it! It totally deserves its “Jewel of Andalucia” title, no matter how touristic and cliche it might sound 🙂
