RO: Ei bine, da, în ciuda preconcepțiilor inițiale, Emiratele Arabe Unite chiar ne-au dovedit că sunt o destinație perfectă pentru călătoriile cu un bebeluș și mai ales cu un copil mai măricel. Sunt atât de multe activități, atât de multe tentații pentru cei mici, atâtea de văzut și făcut, clima este perfectă pe timp de iarnă, oamenii extrem de amabili și atenți în special față de familiile cu copii, costurile nu atât de mari precum ne așteptam, plajă, zgârie-nori, mâncare bună, și totul la numai 4 ore și jumătate de zbor de București. Am scris mai multe despre Dubai într-un articol separat din secțiunea de Travel, așa că în cadrul acestui articol vom povesti despre cum ni s-a părut vacanța noastră cu un bebeluș de șase luni și jumătate și care au fost provocările întâlnite.

EN: Oh well, yup, against all odds, the United Arab Emirates proved to be a perfect destination for travelling with a baby and especially with a bigger child. There are so many activities, so many temptations for the little ones, so many things to do and see, the climate is perfect during winter time, the people are so nice and kind especially when it comes to families with children, the costs are not as high as expected, beach, sky scrapers, good food, and everything just at 4 hours and a half flying from Bucharest. We wrote more abut Dubai in a separate article in the Travel section, so in this article we will mainly focus on how was our vacation in Dubai with a 6,5 months old baby and what were the challenges that we faced.

Zborul / The flight

RO: Inițial ne bucurasem teribil că zborul Fly Dubai către Dubai era un zbor de noapte (decolare la 23:30), gândindu-ne că fără doar și poate Alexei va dormi buștean încă de dinaintea decolării. Nu a fost însă cazul 🙂 În general, somnul de noapte începe în jurul orei 8. Noi am ajuns la aeroport la 8:30 și din cauza întregii agitații din aeroport, controale, scos din sistem, pus în sistem, nu a reușit să adoarmă deloc, fiind prea stimulat. La începutul zborului, deși era foarte obosit, nu a reușit să adoarmă din cauza zgomotului și abia după mai bine de o oră a reușit să adoarmă. Am subestimat și faptul că un zbor de 5 ore cu un bebeluș de aproape 9 kg în brațe, în aceeași poziție, nu va fi deloc plăcut. Avioanele celor de la Fly Dubai sunt mici, prin urmare nu au unde să pună acele bassinet-uri speciale pentru bebeluși, ca în avioanele mari, așa că orice mișcare sau mutare a lui îl trezea.

EN: Initially, we were extremely happy that our Fly Dubai flight to Dubai was during night time (take off at 23:30), thinking that Alexei will for sure sleep like a log even before take off. That wasn’t actually the case 🙂 In general, we goes to sleep around 8PM. We arrived at the airport at 8:30 PM and because of all the hustle and bustle from the airport, all the controls, taking him out from the baby carrier and so on, he couldn’t sleep at all, as he was way too stimulated. At the beginning of the flight, even though he was very tired, he couldn’t fall asleep because of the noise, but after an hour he eventually fell asleep. We underestimated the fact that a 5 hours flight with an almost 9kg baby in the arms, in the same position, won’t be pleasant at all. Fly Dubai’s airplanes are small, so there are no baby bassinets as they normally do in bigger aircrafts, so moving him or trying to put him in another place was waking him up.

RO: Nici noi, nici el nu am reușit să dormim suficient pe zbor, iar când am ajuns la destinație, fiind deja ora 6, ne-am trezit complet. Zborul acesta, mai lung decât un zbor normal în Europa, dar cu siguranță mult mai scurt decât un long haul pe care îl planificăm prin februarie, ne-a demonstrat că nu va fi ușor să călătorim cu Alexei către destinații îndepărtate. Și chiar dacă inițial eram convinși că un zbor de noapte e cea mai bună opțiune, acum am realizat că pentru noi ar fi mai indicat un zbor de zi. Cu siguranță am face față mult mai bine unor 10-11 ore intense de jucat, vorbit, plimbat prin avion și distrat bebelusul decat unei nopți complet nedormite și unei oboseli extreme. În mod cert pentru copii mai mari, zborul de noapte este o opțiune extrem de bună (pentru că pot dormi singuri, în scaunul lor), însă pentru bebeluși am zice că nu. Și ca să fim extrem de sinceri… chiar și dacă avionul ar fi avut un bassinet pentru bebeluși, nu credem că am fi fost foarte relaxați, dormind liniștiți știindu-l pe el acolo. Dar asta poate fi consecința faptului că ne-am obișnuit să dormim cu el în pat și să îl simțim mereu aproape de noi, deci e foarte posibil ca alți părinți să nu aibă această problemă.

EN: Neither us or him managed to sleep enough during the flight, and when we got to the destination it was already 6AM so we had to completely wake up. This flight, longer than a normal flight in Europe but obviously shorter than the long haul that we are planning in February, proved us that it won’t be easy to travel with baby Alexei to faraway destinations. And even if initially we were sure that a night flight is the best option, we now realized that for us it would be better to travel during the day. We are almost certain that we can handle better 10-11 intense hours of playing, talking, walking through the airplane and entertain our baby rather a completely sleepless night and extreme tiredness. Obviously, for bigger children, the night flight is a very good option (because they can sleep alone, in their own chair) but for such small babies we would say that is not. And to be completely honest… even if the airplane would have had a baby bassinet, we don’t think that we would have been very relaxed, sleeping while he would have been there. But that can be the consequence of the fact that we got used to sleep with him in our bed and always feeling him close to us, so maybe other parents won’t have this problem at all.

DIFERENTA DE FUS ORAR / JET LAG

RO: Din fericire, Emiratele Arabe Unite sunt cu doar două ore înainte României, deci diferența de fus orar nu este tocmai sesizabilă. Pentru un adult 🙂 Pentru un bebeluș însă, e suficient cât să îi strice complet rutina zilnică. Astfel că Alexei s-a adaptat destul de greu noului orar (de fapt nu s-a adaptat deloc, a funcționat după programul de acasă :D), însă în cazul de față a fost un lucru benefic pentru noi, părinții. În mod normal se trezește la oră 8 dimineața și se culcă la ora 8 seara, astfel că după noul fus orar, programul s-a schimbat cu trezit la 10 dimineața și culcat la 10 seara. Bineînțeles, asta ne dădea nouă, părinților, mai mult timp seara pentru petrecut, urmând ca a două zi să ne trezim mai târziu decât de obicei. Prima zi a fost destul de dificilă (din cauza nopții petrecute în avion) cu multe plânsete și o stare generală de nervozitate din cauza oboselii, însă următoarele zile și-a revenit complet. Totuși, e un pic îngrijorător dacă ne gândim la zborurile foarte lungi și la diferențe de fus orar foarte mari, pesemne că nu îi va fi ușor să se adapteze. Ne vom documenta mai mult pentru zborurile long haul, să încercăm să găsim o variantă pentru a-l adapta cât mai ușor noului fus orar. Și nouă, adulților ne este foarte greu, darămite lor 🙂

EN: Luckily, the United Arab Emirates are just two hours ahead of Romania, so the jet lag is not quite noticeable. For an adult 🙂 However, for a baby, it is enough to ruin his daily routine. So Alexei adapted quite hard to the new schedule (actually he didn’t, he continued to sleep on his home schedule :D), but in this case it was good for us, the parents. Normally, he wakes up at 8 AM and sleeps at 8 PM, so after the new timezone, the schedule changed with waking up at 10 AM and sleeping at 10 PM in the evening. Of course, this gave us a lot of time to spend in the evening and we could wake up a bit later than usual. First day was quite difficult (because of the night we’ve spent in the airplane), with lots of crying and a general state of irritability due to the tiredness, but in the next days it was all good again. However, it’s a bit worrying if we think about longer flights and bigger timezone differences, for sure it will not be easy for him to adapt. We will need to do some research for our long haul flights, and we will try to find the best option to adapt him as soon as possible to the new timezone. It is hard for us, as adults, not to mention for them 🙂 

ITINERARIU / ITINERARY 

RO: Bineînțeles, a trebuit să renunțăm la ideile nerealiste de a vedea tot ce se poate vedea în Dubai în șase zile. Cu siguranță ar fi fost posibil dacă am fi fost doar noi doi, însă cu un bebeluș lucrurile se complică puțin. În primul rând, distanțele sunt destul de măricele și chiar este destul de greu să vezi mai multe zone ale orașului într-o singură zi. În plus, stând cazați la capătul insulei The Palm, orice plecare adaugă cel puțin 20-30 de minute de condus (da, atâta-i de mare frunza exterioară a palmierului!). Așa că am limitat itinerariul și chiar dacă aveam mult mai multe locuri trecute pe listă, am văzut doar o parte din ele și am încercat să ne bucurăm de o vacanță mai lentă și mai leneșă.

EN: Of course, we had to give up to our unrealistic ideas to see everything that can be seen in Dubai in six days. It would have been feasible for just the two of us, but with a baby things are getting a bit more complicated. First of all, the distances are quite big and it is hard to see more areas of the town in only one day. Besides, staying at the end of The Palm island, we had to add 20-30 minutes of driving (yup, that’s how big the exterior leaf of the palm is!). So we had to limit our itinerary and even though we had plenty of things to see, we managed to see just a part of them but we enjoyed a slow and tranquil holiday.  

RO: Am fost în Dubai Marina, fiind relativ aproape de The Palm, atât pe timpul zilei cât și seara, să vedem luminile. Promenada Marina Walk este perfectăăăăăă pentru plimbările cu căruciorul, iar zona din fața mallului Dubai Marina este plină de restaurante și cafenele (am fi vrut să încercăm cele din clădirea Pier 7 însă nu am ajuns din motive bebelusesti).

EN: We’ve been to Dubai Marina, being relatively close to The Palm, both during day time and night time, to see the lights. Marina Walk promenade is perfeeeeeect for walking with the baby stroller and the area in front of Dubai Marina Mall is full of restaurants and cafes (we wanted to try the ones from Pier 7 building but we couldn’t get there due to baby issues :D). 




RO: Am mers în Downtown Dubai și am vizitat Burj Khalifa dimineața (7:30AM), ca să evităm aglomerația și haosul din timpul zilei, care l-ar fi stimulat prea mult pe Alexei. Nu se poate urca pe platformă cu cărucioarele, așa că ar fi fost mai indicat să luăm sistemul de purtat cu noi, ca să ne fie mai ușor. Nu am intenționat să petrecem prea mult timp în faimosul Dubai Mall, însă de fiecare dată când ajungeam reușeam să ne rătăcim (este absolut imens, nu degeaba e cel mai mare din lume) și să pierdem foarte multă vreme. Seara am văzut spectacolul fântânilor dansante (sunt de-a dreptul spectaculoase!) și luminile proiectate pe Burj Khalifa.

EN: We’ve been to Downtown Dubai and visited Burj Khalifa in the morning (7:30 AM), so that we can avoid the crowds and chaos during the day, which would have stimulated Alexei way too much. Strollers cannot go on the platform, so it would have been better for us to take the baby carrier, it would have been easier. We did not intend to spend too much time in the famous Dubai Mall, but each time we went there we managed to get lost (it’s absolutely huge, no wonder is the biggest mall in the world) and eventually we lost quite a lot of time there. In the evening we’ve seen the dancing fountains show (these are truly spectacular!) and the light projected on Burj Khalifa. 





RO: Cumva am reușit să ajungem și în Mall of the Emirates, deși chiar ne propusesem să nu petrecem deloc multă vreme prin malluri. Însă eram curioși să vedem pârtia de ski de interior (și e chiar spectaculoasă!) și apoi să încercăm două restaurante: Cheesecake Factory (care este genial, nu este cofetărie, după cum ar indica numele, au mâncare delicioasă, porții imense, prețuri medii spre măricele iar la capitolul cheesecake-uri sunt un dezmăț!) și Karam Beirut, un restaurant cu specific libanez pe care l-am găsit însă închis.

EN: Somehow we ended up in Mall of the Emirates as well. even though we tried not to spend too much time in shopping malls. But we were curious to see the interior ski slope (which is fabulous!) and then we wanted to try two restaurants: Cheesecake Factory (which is great, they don’t sell just cakes as the name would imply, they have delicious food, huge portions, medium to high prices and yup, the cheesecakes are a total feast!) and Karam Beirut, a typical Lebanese restaurant that unfortunately we found closed. 

RO: Am vrut să căutăm o plajă publică unde să stăm cu Alexei o jumătate de zi (deși aveam și plaja hotelului și nu era absolut necesar), așa că am încercat Barasti Beach (unde nu era însă permis accesul cu bebeluși pe plajă, fiind un beach-club), apoi Jumeirah Public Beach, de unde se vede foarte bine hotelul Burj al Arab. În zona această am găsit un restaurant bestial cu specific palestinian, numit Mama’esh, îl recomandăm cu mare drag (mâncare delicioasă și prețuri decente).

EN: We wanted to search for a public beach where we could stay with Alexei for half a day (even though we had a pool at the hotel so this was not absolutely necessary) so we tried Barasti Beach (but the babies are not allowed there as this is a beach club) and then Jumeirah Public Beach where Burj al Arab can be easily seen. In this area we also found a great Palestinian restaurant called Mama’esh, we totally recommend it (good food and decent prices). 

RO: Am fi vrut să ajungem și într-un souk tradițional (un fel de bazar cu multe magazine și produse tradiționale), însă din păcate nu am reușit. Am mers însă în souk-ul din cadrul complexului Madinat Jumeirah, însă pentru data viitoare când ajungem în Dubai vom trece pe listă souk-ul de mirodenii, cel de aur, de textile și cel de parfumuri.

EN: We would have wanted to visit a traditional souk (a kind of bazaar with many shops and traditional products), but unfortunately we did not make it. However, we’ve been to Madinat Jumeirah Souk, but for the next time when we’ll be in Dubai we will for sure see the Spics Souk, the Gold Souk, the Textile Souk and the Perfume Souk.
RO: Am vizitat și Miracle Garden, o grădină absolut imensă de flori (cea mai mare grădină de flori din lume de altfel-deja ne-am obișnuit cu dorința Dubaiului de a epata și de a se afla mereu în topurile de “cele mai”) deschisă în 2013. Adevărul e că de-a dreptul impresionant să vezi atâtea figurine uriașe acoperite cu flori (există chiar și un avion Emirates îmbrăcat complet în flori sau un tunel format din multe inimi acoperite de flori) și este un loc în care s-ar putea petrece câteva ore bune cu copiii. Noi am ales să mergem dimineața, chiar la prima oră, într-o zi lucrătoare, ca să evităm aglomerația. Am fi vrut să vedem și Global Village din apropiere, însă nu am mai ajuns.

EN: We also visited Miracle Garden, a huge flower garden (the biggest in the world, we already know it) opened in 2013. Honestly, it is truly impressive to see so many huge figurines covered in flowers (there is even an Emirates airplane covered in flowers or a heart tunnel made of flowers) and this could be a place where families with children can spend a couple of hours. We went there at first hour in the morning, during week time, to avoid the crowds. We would have wanted to see Global Village as well, but we couldn’t do both in one day.

RO: Într-una din zile am vizitat Abu Dhabi (o oră și un pic de condus din Dubai), cel mai mare emirat din Emiratele Arabe Unite, având trei obiective trecute pe listă: moscheea Sheikh Zayed, Palatul Emirates (cel unde a fost filmat “Sex and the City”) și Ferrari World (cel mai mare roller coaster din lume). Am reușit să vedem doar moscheea :))

EN: In one of the days we visited Abu Dhabi (one hour or so driving from Dubai), the biggest emirate from the United Arab Emirates, wanting to visit three touristic places: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Emirates Palace (where “Sex and the City” was filmed) and Ferrari World (the biggest roller coaster in the world). We could only see the mosque :))



RO: Apoi am ales să facem safari în deșert, experiență despre care vom vorbi pe larg într-un articol separat. Foarte pe scurt vom spune însă că deși a fost foarte frumos și ne pare bine că am fost pentru prima oară în deșert, nu este neapărat o activitate potrivită pentru un bebeluș atât de mic. Pentru un copil puțin mai mare cu siguranță este minunat, însă noi ne-am stresat destul de rău. Paranoici sau nu, ne temeam de drumul propriu zis prin deșert, în mod evident nu am făcut sand bashing-ul inclus în traseu (mers cu viteză printre dunele de nisip), ne era teamă să nu îi între nisip în ochi, în nas, apoi la tabăra din deșert ni se părea muzica foarte tare (deși luasem cu noi căștile pentru bebeluși), un pic cam mult haos, prea multă lume, prea mulți stimuli și un pic cam prea rece. Nu am realizat că seara în deșert devine destul de frig, Alexei era îmbrăcat subțire, însă am avut cu noi o păturică în care l-am ținut învelit toată seara. Experiența în sine a fost foarte frumoasă și o recomandăm cu dragă inimă, însă parcă pentru o familie cu un bebeluș nu este tocmai ideală. Nu pentru că s-ar întâmpla ceva (în final totul a fost extrem de bine și toate temerile noastre au fost nefondate), dar simplul fapt că ești atât de stresat să îi fie bebelușului bine te face să nu te bucuri pe deplin de experiență. Și e păcat 🙂

EN: Then we wanted to do a safari desert trip, an experience that we will detail in a separate article. But we will briefly say here that even though it was very nice and we’re happy that we’ve been for the first time in a desert. it’s not quite an activity suitable for such a small baby. For a bigger child for sure it is great, but we were a bit too stressed. Paranoid or not, we were afraid of the road through the desert, we obviously didn’t do the sand bashing included in the trip (high speed driving through the dunes), we were afraid that Alexei will have sand in his eyes or nose and at the camp the music was a bit too loud (even if we had the baby headsets with us), a bit too much chaos, too many people, too many stimulating things around and a bit too cold. We didn’t realize that in the evening it might be a bit chilly in the desert and we didn’t have more clothes for Alexei, but luckily we had a blanket and we could hold him in it all evening long. The experience itself was very nice and we highly recommend it, but for a family with a small baby it might not be ideal. Not that something would happen (in the end everything was ok and we shouldn’t have worried so much) but the simple fact that you can be so stressed to be sure that the baby is fine can ruin the vibe of the experience. And it’s not worth it 🙂










RO: Iar una dintre zile a fost dedicată întru totul lenevelii la piscina hotelului 🙂 Ar fi fost și păcat să nu profităm de hotelul drăguț, pe care îl recomandăm famiilor cu copii, este genial! Am stat la Anantara The Palm Resort, chiar pe insula The Palm, și am avut noroc să prindem o ofertă foarte bună pe aplicația Hotel Tonight. Camera a costat aproximativ 120 euro pe noapte, cu toate taxele incluse (prețul pe booking.com era de trei ori mai mare). Ce e însă de luat în calcul la hotelurile din Dubai este faptul că au niște taxe suplimentare enoooooorme! Una dintre ele este numită “Dubai Hotel Tax” și diferă în funcție de tipul de cazare, între 7 dirhami pe zi (pentru un hostel/guesthouse) și 20 dirhami pe zi (pentru un hotel de 5 stele). Apoi 5% TVA, 7% taxa municipală și 10% taxa de servicii proprietate.

EN: And one of the days was fully dedicated to staying at the hotel’s pool 🙂 It would have been a waste not to enjoy the nice hotel where we stayed, we totally recommend it for families with children, it’s simply gorgeous! We stayed at Anantara The Palm Resort, right on The Palm island, and we were lucky to find a very good deal on Hotel Tonight app. The room was around 120 euros per night with all taxes included (the price on booking.com was three times bigger). What should be taken into consideration is the fact that hotels in Dubai have some huuuuuge additional taxes! One of them is called “Dubai Hotel Tax” and can vary according to the type of accommodation chosen, from 7 dirhams per day (for a hotel/guesthouse) to 20 dirhams per day (for a 5* resort). Then 5% VAT, 7% municipality tax and 10% property taxes. 

TRANSPORT / TRANSPORTATION 

RO: Sinceri să fim, credem cu tărie că cea mai bună variantă de transport în Dubai este mașina închiriată. Da, există metrou și este foarte ușor de folosit, la fel și taxiurile despre care am auzit că ar fi foarte accesibile, există și opțiunea unui șofer privat (pentru o excursie de o zi în abu Dhabi spre exemplu), însă o mașină închiriată este cea mai convenabilă variantă. Prețurile la închirieri sunt mici (am plătit 1100 lei pentru o Toyota Rav 4, 6 zile de închiriat și 150 lei pentru asigurare-de la Hertz), iar benzina e un chilipir (am cheltuit echivalentul a 170 lei pentru 800 km conduși în cele 6 zile). În plus, pentru o familie cu un bebeluș, este infinit mai ușor cu o mașină închiriată decât mergând cu mijloacele de transport în comun sau taxiurile. Totuși, ar fi câteva aspecte de luat în calcul. În primul rând, scaunul de mașină pentru bebeluș. Rezervasem online o mașină cu un scaun de bebeluș, însă la fața locului ni s-a spus cu toată senintatea posibilă că nu au unul. Și că “este ok să țină mama bebelușul în brațe, pe bancheta din spate”. Am insistat în zadar că nu suntem ok să îl ținem în brațe, că nu este legal și că vrem neapărat un scaun de bebeluș, dar într-un final au reușit să ne facă rost de un scaun pentru copii mai mari de 1 an. Eram dispuși să îl folosim (chiar dacă îi era mare lui Alexei și extrem, dar extrem de murdar și uzat), însă când am văzut că îl montează în centuri (nu în bază isofix) și că scaunul este front facing și nu rear facing, am renunțat. În plus, costa peste 200 AED să luăm acel scaun. Așa că primul drum către hotel l-am făcut cu Alexei în brațe, pe bancheta din spate, cum ne-au sfătuit ei, însă nu ne-am simțit deloc confortabil cu varianta aceasta, eram amândoi foarte stresați. Am postat toată această experiență și îngrijorarea aferentă pe Instagram, într-un story, și am avut noroc ca o mămică foarte drăguță, rezidentă în Dubai, să se ofere să ne ajute și să ne împrumute un scaun de bebeluș pe toată perioada vacanței. Chiar dacă în UAE este permis ca mama să țină bebelușul în brațe pe bancheta din spate (tolerat de poliție, însă nu neapărat legal!), noi am recomanda cu tărie să se folosească scaune de mașină pentru bebeluși și copii. Traficul este infernal și se conduce CA LA NEBUNI.

EN: To be honest, we strongly believe that the best transportation method in Dubai is the rental car. Yes, there is a subway in Dubai and it is very easy to use it, we also heard that cabs are quite affordable, private drives are also an option (for a day trip to Abu Dhabi for instance), but a rental car is the most convenient option. The rental prices are small (we payed 240 euros for a Toyota Rav 4, 6 days of rental and 30 euros for the insurance – from Hertz) and the fuel is extremely cheap (we spent less than 40 euros for 800 km driven in six days). Besides, for a family with a baby, it is way much easier having a rental car rather than using public transportation or cabs. However, there are some things to consider. First of all, the baby car seat. We booked online a car with a car seat included but when we got to the rental office we were told that they don’t have one. And that it’s ok to hold the baby in your arms, on the back seat of the car”. We insisted in vain that we are not ok with holding him in our arms, that this is not legal and that we want a baby car seat, but eventually they found a car seat for babies bigger than one year. We wanted to use that one (even though it was way too big for Alexei and extremely dirty and used), but when we’ve seen that they are mounting it in the car’s belts (so no isofix base) and that the chair was actually front facing and not rear facing, we had to give up. Besides, it was 200 AED to take the chair. So the first drive to the hotel I hold Alexei in my arms, on the back seat of the car, as they advised us, but we didn’t feel comfortable at all with this option., we were both very stressed. We posted this experience and our worries on an Instagram story and we were very lucky to find a nice mommy who borrowed us her daughter’s car seat for the entire week. Even though in UAE it is permitted to hold the baby in the arms on the back seat (tolerated by the police but not necessarily legal!), we would strongly recommend to use the car seats for babies and children. The traffic is terrible and people in Dubai have a very erratic driving style.

CARUCIOR / BABY STROLLER

RO: La fel ca și în celelalte vacanțe de până acum, am folosit căruciorul Mutsy Nio, partea sport, însă am folosit destul de mult și sistemul (în sfârșit, Alexei acceptă să stea în sistem, sau cel puțin să adoarmă :D). Chiar dacă Dubai nu este neapărat un oraș pe care să îl parcurgi în plimbare, există câteva locuri liniștite unde am putut să ne plimbăm în voie cu căruciorul cât timp dormea Alexei. În primul rând zona promenadei Dubai Marina (puțin după zonă de restaurante și mall), zona din preajma Dubai Mall, Dubai Creek (unde din păcate nu am ajuns), promenada de pe insula Blue Waters, grădina tematică Miracle Garden. Sunt o mulțime de locuri potrivite pentru o plimbare cu căruciorul. Am avut însă și varianta sistemului, pe care îl foloseam mai mult seara, ziua fiind destul de cald (iar sistemul nostru foarte gros-Ergobaby 360).

EN: As well as in the other trips that we had so far, we used our Mutsy Nio stroller (the chair), but we also used the baby carrier quite a lot (finally, Alexei accepts staying in it , or at least to sleep in it :D). Even though Dubai is not necessarily a city that you can visit walking, there are some tranquil places where we could walk while Alexei was sleeping. First of all, the promenade from Dubai Marina (after the restaurants area and the mall), the area around Dubai Mall, Dubai Creek (which unfortunately we did not see), the promenade from the Blue Waters island, the themed garden Miracle Garden. There are quite a few places suitable for walks with the stroller. We also had the baby carrier with us but we used it more in the evening, as during the day it was quite hot and our baby carrier is quite big (Ergobaby 360).

MANCAREA / FOOD

RO: Ei bine, s-a terminat cu traiul bun 🙂 Șase luni și jumătate ar însemna deja începerea diversificării, însă pentru că am avut foarte multe plecări între 5 și 6 luni, am amânat diversificarea pentru întoarcerea în țară. Am testat însă apele înainte de plecări, cu câteva legume și fructe pasate (deși am fi vrut să optăm pentru auto-diversificare, ne-am gândit că ar fi mai indicat să începem cu cea clasică în primă fază, urmând ca apoi să alternăm – vom scrie un articol separat despre toată experiență noastră cu diversificarea). În Dubai însă nu i-am dat deloc mâncare solidă, respectând sfatul medicului nostru pediatru. Din cauza diferenței de climă nu știam exact cum va reacționa, și neavând încă suficientă experiență cu diversificarea ne era un pic teamă să îi luăm legume și fructe de la fața locului. Ni s-a recomandat să încercăm borcănașele cu mâncare dacă ținem neapărat să îi dăm ceva cât eram plecați, însă nimic din ce am găsit în supermarketuri nu ni s-a părut ok (nu erau nici foarte multe variante, și mai toate conțineau zahăr sau erau combinații potrivite bebelușilor mai mari). Nu suntem împotriva borcănașelor de mâncare (nu aruncați cu pietre :D), câtă vreme sunt folosite în cazuri extreme și nu în mod frecvent. Astfel că în final am decis să continuăm alăptarea exclusivă până la întoarcere, însă i-am dat pentru prima oară apă. După cum ne-a spus și medicul pediatru, umiditatea este foarte mare în Dubai și șansele de deshidratare sunt foarte mari. Astfel că am avut cu noi o cănuță specială pentru bebeluși (avem modelul acesta de tranziție de la Nuk; ulterior am încercat și Munchkin 360 pentru 6 luni +, dar fără prea mult succes) și a băut puțină apă între meșe (cam 10-20ml/zi), mai mult se juca cu biberonul decât să bea. Însă legat de alăptatul în public, ei bine, Houston we have a problem. Cum era de așteptat într-o țară arabă, alăptatul în public nu este tocmai recomandat, însă am fost surprinși să citim și să vedem că sunt foarte deschiși la minte când vine vorba de alăptat. Lumea este foarte tolerantă câtă vreme alăptatul este făcut în mod discret (acoperit cu o eșarfă, retras într-un colț mai puțin populat), însă ca să fim foarte sinceri, nu am văzut nicio femeie alăptând în public. Totuși, mall-urile au întotdeauna camere speciale pentru alăptat (arată foarte bine și sunt foarte dotate), așa că există alternative.

EN: Oh well, good living is now over 🙂 Six and a half months would mean starting the food diversification already, but because we had plenty of trips between 5 and 6 months, we postponed the diversification for the moment when we came back home. But we tested him a bit beforehand, with some pureed vegetables and fruits (we would have wanted to choose baby led weaning but we thought that it would be better for us to start with the classic diversification first and then to alternate them – we will write a separate article about our entire experience with introducing solid foods). In Dubai we did not give him solid foods at all, following our pediatrician advice. Because of the climate differences, we didn’t know how exactly he will react and as we did not have enough experience with food diversification we were a bit afraid to buy him fruits and vegetables from there. We were told that we can try the baby food jars if we really want to give him food while we were gone, but nothing that we found in the supermarkets was ok (there weren’t so many options and most of them had sugar in it or were suitable for bigger babies). We are not against these baby jars (please don’t judge us :D) if they are used wisely and as an exception. So in the end we finally decided that Alexei will only be breastfed until we will come back, but we gave him water for the first time. As our pediatrician told us, the humidity in Dubai is very strong and the baby can easily dehydrate. So we had with us a baby mug (we have this transition model from Nuk; later we also tried Munchkin 360 for 6+ months but it he wasn’t so attracted by it) and drank a bit of water in between his breastfeeding meals (10-20ml/day), he actually played more with the bottle rather than drink from it. As for breastfeeding in public, oh well, Houston we have problem here. As expected in an Arab country, breastfeeding in public is not precisely recommended, but we’ve been surprised to read and see that people here are open minded when it comes to breastfeeding. People is tolerant as long as the breastfeeding is done in a discrete manner (covering with a scarf, staying in a less populated area), but to be completely honest, we’ve never seen a women breastfeeding in public. However, the shopping malls always have special rooms for breastfeeding (they look really nice and well equipped), so there are alternatives.  

SOMNUL BEBELUSULUI / BABY SLEEP 

RO: Nesperat de bun și liniștitor! Nici nu îndrăznim să spunem mai multe pentru că tare ne-ar plăcea să devină o obișnuință 😀 Fără treziri prea dese noaptea (totuși încă se trezește de câteva ori pentru alăptat, însă sunt reprize foarte scurte pe care nici nu le mai simțim ca treziri).

EN: Totally unexpected, but it was good and chill! We don’t even dare to say more as we would honestly like this to become a habit 😀 No often wake ups during night time (however he still gets up a couple of times for breastfeeding, but we honestly don’t perceive these as wake ups anymore).

GRESELI / MISTAKES

RO: Încă o data am resimțit din plin lipsa scoicii pentru căruciorul nostru. Am fi scutit foarte mult stres și supărări din cauza companiei de închiriat mașini (care nu avea scaunul disponibil, deși îl cerusem în rezervarea online) dacă am fi avut scoica căruciorului. În orice caz, în curând va trebui să renunțăm la scoică și să trecem la scaun de mașină, așa că este deja tardiv să mai cumpărăm o scoică. Însă ne va fi învățătură de minte și vom sfătui pe oricine intenționează să cumpere un cărucior, să aleagă un sistem 3 în 1. În rest… am spune că ne-am descurcat binișor de data aceasta, fără prea multe greșeli majore 🙂 De fapt și de drept, avem un bebeluș model care ne-a făcut viața ușoară, deci nu-i nici pe departe meritul nostru 😀

EN: Once again we felt the absence of the baby car seat from our stroller. We would have avoided so much stress and worries caused by the car rental company (that didn’t have an available car seat, even though we asked for it in our online reservation) if we would have had the baby car seat from the stroller. Anyways, soon we will have to completely give up to this small car seat and buy a bigger one for the car. But we will always remember this lesson and always advice anyone who wants to buy a stroller to choose a 3 in 1 system. Besides this… we would say that we did pretty much ok this time, with no major mistakes 🙂 Actually, we have a perfect baby that made our lives easier, he’s the reason why everythign went so smoothly 😀

PROVOCARI / CHALLENGES

RO: În mod cert, principala provocare a fost zborul mai lung decât cele cu care îl obișnuisem până acum. Deși a fost vorba de al zecelea zbor în șase luni, nu a fost tocmai ușor (nici pentru bebeluș, nici pentru noi) și chiar am resimțit oboseala din cauza nopții nedormite în avion. Am vrea să încercăm un zbor mai lung pe timp de zi, să vedem dacă ne vom descurca mai bine. O a doua provocare a fost grija cu scaunul de mașină, chiar eram destul de stresați când am văzut că nu am rezolvat cu cei de la compania de închirieri. Din fericire, s-au aliniat planetele și puterea social media-ului ne-a rezolvat și această problemă 🙂 O a treia provocare ar fi mâncarea și faptul că în mod normal ar fi trebuit să începem diversificarea. Am amânat însă momentul pentru când aveam să ne întoarcem din Dubai (6,5-7 luni). Apoi, bagajul! Am realizat târziu că ne va fi destul de dificil să găsim haine de vară pentru Alexei în mijlocul iernii când magazinele sunt ticsite de haine groase. Hainele din vară nu îi mai veneau deja (a ajuns să poarte deja măsura 74 la 6 luni :D), însă am avut noroc cu câteva hăinuțe mai mari primite de la prieteni și familie și cu câteva comenzi online la H&M 😀 Am vrut neapărat să îi luăm un costum de baie pentru bebeluși și o pălăriuță, ca să nu îl expunem prea mult la soare. Bineînțeles, și alăptatul în public a fost oarecum o provocare, dar cu puțină organizare am reușit să nu întâmpinăm niciodată probleme (profitam de orice cameră de alăptat din malluri, de mașină, de locurile mai dosite pe care le întâlneam și aveam grijă să nu ajungă să îi fie vreodată foame).

EN: For certain the biggest challenge was the flight – longer than the ones Alexei was used until now. Even though it was the tenth flight in six months, it wasn’t quite easy (not for the baby nor for us) and we really felt the tiredness caused by the sleepless night spent in the airplane. We would like to try a longer flight during day time, just to see if it will be better for us. A second challenge was the baby car seat, we were quite stressed when we’ve seen that we cannot solve the problem with the car rental company. Luckily, everything was fine in the end and the power of social media solved this issue 🙂 A third challenge was the food and the fact that we should have normally have started food diversification. But we postponed it until we came back home (6,5 – 7 months). And then the luggage! We realized quite late that it will be difficult to find summer clothes for Alexei in the middle of the winter when the stores are filled with winter clothes. His summer clothes were already small (he now wears size 74 at 6 months :D) but we were lucky that we had some bigger clothes from friends and family and I managed to order something online from H&M 😀 We wanted to buy him a baby swimsuit and a hat, so that he will not stay in the sun too much. Of course, breastfeeding in public was quite a challenge as well but with a bit of organization we never had problems (I was using any breastfeeding room that I found in the malls, also the car, the places where there weren’t so many people and I was always trying to keep him fed so that he couldn’t cry because of hunger).
